I am.

I am human. I am hungry. I am a sinner. I am tired. I am ready. I am an athlete. I am lonely. I am an adult. I am a loser. I am the best. We live in a world of identities and classifications yet we serve a God free of labels. In Exodus chapter 3, verse 14, God says to Moses “I Am Who I Am. Say this to the people of Israel: I Am has sent me to you." There is such purity in how God labeled Himself this way. He is not characterized or written off as anything but what He is; He just IS, and for most of us that should be hard to comprehend. Our minds cannot grasp such a concept because we depend on markers and categories. Unfortunately, we conceive a view of ourselves based on what the world tells us we are. Thankfully, as Christians we have an identity in Christ. Here are some versus of how we are seen in Christ’s eyes:
I am a dwelling for the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 2:22)
I am forgiven (Ephesians 1:8; Colossians 1:14)
(John 1:12)

I am God’s child
